Belts are one of the most critical components in any sanding device. They enable the machine to perform its function effectively.
Grit – The grit of the belt determines how rough or smooth a sanding will be. Grit is measured by a number. A low number, such as 40 or 60, indicates a coarse belt that will remove material much faster. The good thing is this works well for heavy sanding. If the number is higher, as in belt 120 or 220, the belt is finer, and will make smoother surfaces. This is fine for final touches.
Size – The size of belt depends on the width and length. Thus, ensure that the belt you are purchasing is compatible with your Ryobi sander. If the belt is too large or too small, it will not function properly.
Identify how coarse the sanding will be before determining the right grit size you will need for the job.
Make sure that your Ryobi sander is not too big. If you have an old belt you can measure its length and width. i
